This is why, we can't help but call out scenes from Bollywood movies that, at one point, perhaps had us laughing out loud but in hindsight, are problematic and need to retire from our movies and our lives: You will have fun, as it is a notch above Pyaar Ka Punchnama.As the world works towards becoming more inclusive, and fair, people are slowly becoming more self-aware and dismantling the problematic behaviors, actions, and words that had been normalized for years. Go catch Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 this weekend, and enjoy the lives of three lads getting dumped in the bin. However, Sunny Singh or the ‘almost Sardar’, as Gogo calls him, who plays his part well as that of a frustrated guy in love, and is the best of the three. Nothing much can be said about the acting as no one goes to watch the acting of the leads in these films. They catch the heart of the audience, and you will find the theatre applauding when it arrives.
The dialogues are well written, and mention should be made of the dialogues in the 7-minute speech by Gogo. Here, in version 2.0, the laughs are laid throughout, and shows the more basic problems in a male’s life through a woman, like the problems caused by a best friend of the girl in a relationship, money matters, and what happens when a girls’ parents treat you as their servant for granted. Pyaar Ka Punchnama had its fair share of laughs, and achieved a cult status because it was made completely from a male’s perspective. A special mention must be made for the sequence when our poor Gogo is unable to drive his car, when his girl and her friends are busy asking him which is the best colour for a nail polish. It begins on the same note as of the previous film, and is more laughable than the earlier version. You can see it coming when he says, “Problem yeh hai ki voh ek ladki hai”. This time also there is a 7-minute long sequence by Gogo, where he lays out the problems of women. You can feel how the boys are getting tangled in the web by their female counterparts, and you have nothing but sympathy for them. The laughs are there throughout the 136-minute long film, the songs are placed in a way as to not hamper the interesting and the laugh-out-loud proceedings, and the jokes are suitable as to meet the storyline. Director Luv Ranjan has taken it upon himself to tell the world about the girls and their silliness, as he clearly shows the lives of the fun-loving guys taking a backseat. While the first part took the obvious tantrum of every girl, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 is a more matured version, showing the matured side of the three lads. It traces the story of three Delhi-NCR boys, Anshul aka Gogo (Kartik Aaryan), Tarun aka Thakur (Omkar Kapoor) and Siddharth aka Chauka (Sunny Singh), who are also flatmates and lead a well settled life in the posh area, when they cross paths with Ruchika aka Chiku (Nushrat Bharucha), Kusum (Ishita Raj) and Supriya (Sonalli Seygall) respectively, and their fun life turns hell, hence in the end declaring that “a mother’s love is the true love”. The second part clearly has its intentions set, as to give a warning to all the bachelors out there, that LOVE KILLS. The first part of the franchise turned out to be a sleeper hit of 2011 and achieved a cult status, thus paving the way for a new set of adventures in the life of three boys in the sequel.
October 16 saw the release of a documentary about the tantrums of women, Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2.
